National Start Walking Day FHCP Employee Wellness Event

Daytona Beach, FL (PRWEB) July 19, 2011

As a leader in healthcare delivery and wellness in Volusia and Flagler Counties of East Central Florida since 1974, Florida Health Care Plans (FHCP) is pleased to announce the launch and state approval of its new wellness rider.

“We are a local company with the goal of improving the health of our members and our community by promoting an employee/employer culture of wellness education, focusing on healthy habits, preventive care, easier access to wellness programs and educational resources,” says Dr. Wendy Myers, CEO of Florida Health Care Plans.

This new approach is a collaborative effort between employers, employees and FHCP, to team together and work with health data to assist employees in addressing unhealthy habits with the goal of a healthier lifestyle. This employee/employer collaboration can also help control the zooming costs of healthcare, and create a healthier, happier and more productive workforce.

The rider has an attractive price tag, costing only 1%-2% of the group plan premium, for increased focus on employees’ health habits that could see a healthy return on investment (ROI). According to the National Business Group on Health, a non-profit industry advisory group, “Employers can realize as much as $ 3.27 in financial benefits for every $ 1.00 invested in workplace wellness programs.”

Another study, done by Sarasota County says, “A review of 32 studies of corporate wellness programs found claims costs were reduced by 27.8%,” and there were also significant declines shown in the number of physician visits, hospital admissions and incidence of injury.

Top of the line technology makes FHCP’s wellness plans accessible and user friendly. The company provides a 24 hour nurse advice line, a self-paced program for those who want to quit smoking, a weight management program and many other educational programs to encourage preventive healthy habits in addition to regular preventive care. Members also have access to an exclusive member portal, providing an easy way to make appointments with FHCP staff physicians, refill prescriptions at FHCP pharmacies and access “Welcome to Wellness” a state of the art health risk assessment with access to articles and multimedia content personalized for each member. There are also programs for members who have heart disease, asthma, high blood pressure and COPD for no extra charge. All of these programs focus on preventive treatment that helps to ward off serious health problems before they happen.

Dr. Mikelle Streicher PhD, RN Chief Marketing and Sales Officer says, “Workplace Wellness programs are not a passing trend. It is about investing in people and in good health so that good business and a healthy bottom line are all the more possible to obtain.”

Author Joann Davis Releases New Book ‘The Well That Never Runs Dry,’ Companion to The Book of the Shepherd

Author Joann Davis Releases New Book ‘The Well That Never Runs Dry,’ Companion to The Book of the Shepherd

The Well That Never Runs Dry by Joann Davis

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 25, 2011

In the tradition of Paulo Coehlo’s The Alchemist, Joann Davis offers a parable in the form of a package that arrives from an antiquarian bookshop in Frankfurt, Germany. The recipient opens it to find a mysterious note and a rare book. Efforts to translate the book result in The Well That Never Runs Dry (HarperOne; Hardcover; $ 19.99; March 2011; 9780061844683), a companion to The Book of the Shepherd and a journey of discovery that leads to a place of faith, hope, and love.

The story begins with Elizabeth, a compassionate midwife who is deeply saddened to discover the body of a small child drowned in a rain-swollen river. Elizabeth is plagued by age-old questions: Why do the righteous suffer? Why does God take children before their time?

Seeking solace in a time of sadness, Elizabeth sleeps and dreams of “The Well That Never Runs Dry,” which she is called to seek out. Together with her young brother, David, and her cousin, Miriam, she sets out to discover the Well. En route, the travelers meet a cast of characters including The Story Teller, The Lamp Lighter, and The Beggar Woman, each of whom imparts a story and provides clues that lead to the sacred well where Elizabeth and her companions uncover one of the greatest lessons of all—the absolute power of love.

Joann Davis is the author of The Book of the Shepherd, which Paulo Coelho has described as “a timeless story about one man who is seeking ‘the new way’…an inspiring and moving fable.” Joann is married to the historian Kenneth C. Davis. Together, they have two grown children, Jenny and Colin, and live in New York City and Dorset, Vermont.

ShopWell and Kwikee Partner to Help Consumers Make Better Nutrition Decisions

ShopWell and Kwikee Partner to Help Consumers Make Better Nutrition Decisions

Peoria, IL (PRWEB) July 28, 2011

Today’s consumers are striving to eat healthier, but most are time-constrained and confused about the multitude of options available. Additionally, people have different nutrition needs and concerns, so it’s important for consumers to be able to customize their food choices to their specific needs. Now people can make better eating decisions using a website or mobile app that caters to their specific needs and uses a reliable source of nutritional data to ensure the information they get is accurate.

ShopWell, a free food information site and mobile app, lets shoppers create personalized profiles that include their specific health goals, conditions and/or preferences, and then scores products and provides easy-to-read product information. Foods are scored by ShopWell’s team of registered dieticians, Stanford University statisticians and engineers who evaluate foods on an ongoing basis.

“Consumers are increasingly concerned with health issues, but product information can be difficult to obtain and decipher,” said Brian Witlin, Co-Founder and CEO. “ShopWell’s goal is to help people make better food choices—quickly—using reliable information that is customized to their unique situation.”

A key issue for ShopWell and similar industry initiatives is the lack of verifiable product information consumers can trust. ShopWell selected Kwikee, a solution by MultiAd, due to its unique business model where manufacturers such as Coca-Cola, Kraft Foods, Unilever and ConAgra sponsor SKUs for product photography and data collection. All of the content in Kwikee is provided by and approved by consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturers, making it a reliable source for accurate product information. The retail trade has free access to the content in Kwikee, with ShopWell taking the process one step further and employing Kwikee’s XML delivery to receive dynamic updates of product content on a daily basis.

New pHoundation Wellness Offers a Customized Wellness Plan Through Their Development of a Self Test Kit

New pHoundation Wellness Offers a Customized Wellness Plan Through Their Development of a Self Test Kit

Springfield, MO (PRWEB) June 28, 2011

Based on pioneering research by a Nobel laureate into the disease-fighting benefits of increasing body alkaline levels, brand new pHoundation Wellness offers test kits, supplements and education promoting optimal body balance. By combining pH testing and metabolic typing, the human body can achieve an ideal operating state. To that end, pHoundation Wellness promotes a comprehensive self test kit. Test results include a customized Health Plan to ensure proper nutrition, exercise, adequate rest, stress management, etc.

“The spark that ignited pHoundation Wellness’s creation was the idea that the human body is equipped to heal itself from most diseases and can keep itself functioning in an ideal state, given the right tools to do so,” said Stacy Kimmel, fitness and wellness professional and spokesperson for pHoundation Wellness. “In spreading this message, we hope to give rise to a health revolution that will enable everyone to gain freedom from poor health and lack of energy.”

pHoundation Wellness (http://www.phoundationwellness.com/) strives to break the self-defeating cycle of treating disease symptoms, rather than the underlying conditions that cause disease. “All disease comes from the same route cause: Too much acid in the body,” states Dr. Theodore Baroody, author of “Alkalize or Die”, whose research supports the pHoundation Wellness concept. At the same time, it’s clear that one-size-fits-all diet plans simply do not work. This is why metabolic typing is critical. It’s more important to determine which foods are optimal for particular people, than for everyone to eat the same foods.

According to William Wolcott, co-author of ‘The Metabolic Typing Book’, “The only diet that is right for you is the one that is right for your metabolic type.”

pHoundation Wellness has pioneered a simple test that lets anyone fine tune their food choices and better understand the right vitamins and supplements that will provide true healthcare options. The pHoundation Wellness self test kit is a simple, yet comprehensive, diagnostic tool. Kimmel will evaluate individual results within seven days and devise a custom body blueprint.

“Because our bodies are unique in their own ways, we have created a well researched Home Self Test Kit that combines pH balance & Metabolic Typing. With all the products on the market, it’s very hard to know what your individual body needs. But with our test, your body will give us that information & you no longer have to guess,” said Kimmel. “Then you won’t have to spend money on needless products. Furthermore, once you find out the results of your test, we can tell you exactly what your body needs…no more, no less. Our product line is intentionally limited, so you are not confused by so many options. Our products are of the highest quality and are competitively priced.

“The first thought of any doctor who treats any kind of disease should be: what is the pH of this patient?” says Dr. Carson E. Pierce.

Join the pHoundation Revolution and take better care of your body today.

Riverside Completes Another Add-On to Medical Supply Platform

(PRWEB) June 15, 2011

The Riverside Company further expanded ActivStyle, its consumable medical products retailing platform, with the add-on acquisition of Home Wellness, Inc. & Stay Dry Products, Inc. (Home Wellness). Based in Cinnaminson, New Jersey, Home Wellness is a specialty distributor of catheters and incontinence supplies, much like Minneapolis-based ActivStyle.

The acquisition is the fourth add-on to ActivStyle and the second of 2011. The other additions to ActivStyle were Senior Care Services (2007), Advocate Medical Services (2010) and Ostomy Center (2011). Each add-on has helped ActivStyle expand its footprint or add services to more effectively meet customers’ needs.

Founded in 1994, Home Wellness primarily delivers a broad range of catheter supplies to patients throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

“Home Wellness is a blue-chip company that has an outstanding track record with customers, regulatory compliance, and value-driven performance. The acquisition delivers key markets and outstanding relationships to ActivStyle,” said Riverside Managing Partner Loren Schlachet. “We’re building on ActivStyle’s strong performance and building a company that will reach more patients, delivering to them the quality products they need.”

Home Wellness built its patient base by forging long-term relationships with a strong network of physician, nurse and other healthcare professional referral sources. Home Wellness adds value for its referral network by handling all required paperwork and insurance verification and by providing product expertise that physicians may lack. Home Wellness is able to spend time helping patients select the most appropriate product for their needs which often leads to better patient outcomes and more efficient and cost-effective service.

“Adding Home Wellness really strengthens us in the mid-Atlantic region,” said ActivStyle CEO Dan Filippini. “We believe there are some solid opportunities to deepen relationships and expand in Home Wellness’ existing markets, even as we continue to expand ActivStyle nationally. We also look forward to having a strong group of sales, customer service and operational people from Home Wellness join the ActivStyle team.”

In addition to Schlachet, working on the deal for Riverside were Jack Nestor, Principal; Jeff Tobin, Operating Partner; Marques Martin, Associate; and Mary Anne McLaren, Finance Director.

ActivStyle’s existing lending partner, US Bank, provided financing for the transaction. Jones Day provided legal counsel on the transaction, and RSM McGladrey provided accounting due diligence.

The transaction is Riverside’s 56th healthcare acquisition, bolstering the firm’s deep specialization in the sector. Overall, it is Riverside’s 256th acquisition and the ninth of 2011.

The Riverside Company (http://www.riversidecompany.com or http://www.riversideeurope.com)
